The SERIES 63 is the Uniformed State Law Exam that covers various rules and regulations pertaining to the presenting and offering of Securities. No Sponsorship is required to take the Series 63. This is a 65 multiple-choice test covering the topics listed in the Series 63 study guide for state rules and regulations. The Series 63 is a 65 question test with 60 of the questions scored. There are 5 exam questions that are experimental and do not count towards your score. The exam is offered daily but you must first pre register to open a testing window and reserve a test date in the future. It is a closed book (via computer proctored) licensing test.
STUDY TIME
Most find 3-5 days is adequate to prepare and be ready to sit for the exam. The course can be completed online or through book study. There are no formulas and calculations on the Series 63. It is more of a rules, regulations, ethics and procedure exam.
PASSING or FAILING THE EXAM
There is a minimum wait of 30 days if you fail the Series 63 one or 2 times before you can schedule a retake date to take the test again. This also applies to all NASAA - FINRA Exams.
If you fail the exam a 3rd time or more, the wait time to sit for the test again is 180 days.
These waiting periods mirror those already in place for FINRA-sponsored examinations.
The Series 63 is normally not a stand alone license. It is usually a companion license to other representative exams such as the Series 6 and Series 7
