The Series 3 is a National Futures Association (NFA) Exam. This licensing test is graded based on 120 multiple choice questions. Individuals have two and 1/2 hours to finish the exam. 70% is the passing score.

Contract Specifics and Margin - Fundamentals of Margin Accounts including Initial and maintenance requirements. Contract specifics - Offsetting Contracts, Settlements, Delivery and Options Exercise, Assignment, and Settlement process
Types of Orders and Customer Accounts - Types of orders (Market, Stop. Stop-limit), Technical Price Analysis, including market charts, trends and support/resistance levels and Interest rates/yield curve analysis
Futures Hedging - Short and Long Hedging concepts, strategies and risks, hedging calculations including Net price received upon purchase or sale and the effect on price of commodity actually delivered or bought
Futures Speculation - Gross profit on speculative trades: single or multiple contract positions, the effect of commissions on gross profits and Recommend appropriate speculative trades given certain economic or technical situations
Options Spreads and Speculation - Bull and Bear spread trading concepts and strategies, Long put as alternative to short a futures hedge and Long call as a substitute for long futures
Rules and Regulations - CFTC registrations and NFA member firm procedures, risk disclosure documents and promotional - sales Material along with futures account opening requirements and knowing your customer
